Estate Administration

We will assist with all aspects of trust and estate administration after a loved one has passed. Assistance may be provided on an as needed basis, and may include the following:

  • Opening the estate and qualification as personal representative.   This involves appearing before the probate clerk of the circuit court in the decedent’s jurisdiction, and providing evidence of death and other support for your qualification, such as a death certificate and Will
  • Court filings.  May include an inventory of the decedent’s property, and a periodic accounting of estate income, expenses, debts, gains and losses, and distributions to beneficiaries
  • Obtaining necessary employer identification numbers for the estate or trust, used for account set-up and tax returns
  • Tax returns.  May include the final individual income tax returns for the decedent, fiduciary federal and state income tax returns for the estate or trust, and federal and state estate tax returns

Note: Estate Administration services are offered for estates of Virginia domiciled decedents only.
